it could bite as it is a wild animal and frightened. But, its a harmless snake, so if it does bite you, it aint gonna kill you. Using only your hands, grab it behind the head as to control it, then it cannot bite you.

If I were you.. I'd let him go and not touch him at all. Not only could be be carrying a disease, but he's probably stressed and handling him will stress him out more so he could get sick and die.

If he seems calm, then it's okay to pick him up but you must make sure that he feels secure. Snakes have a fear of falling and they get stressed when they don't feel safe. It would be best if your parent picked it up first and then handed it to you. Don't do it when you are alone. Most snakes don't bite at all when they feel safe.
