Why do some animals chase light? Does anyone know if there is any physiological reason for this?

I dont know by but I got my Great Dane to climb a tree after the laser dot. He looked like a big white bear in the tree, who could not get back down.

my guess would be that they think its a small animal

Nothing physiological about it. Dog sees dot move, dog chases dot. It more instinct than anything else
