No matter the medication, it takes time to be processesd by your body and time to get into your bloodstream. Next time, try filling a gallon bottle with hot water, lay on your back and place the heavy, warm bottle on your lower belly. It seems to hurry the medication by increasing blood flow and it also relieves the cramping with pressure and heat. Sleep, if you can. The pain should be gone when you wake.

If it starts to work within 20 minutes, that's fast acting. That is as fast as something orally in pill form can possibly be assimilated and digested for the body to use it. What you can do is make sure you overlap your doses by half an hour and then you won't be without it.
