• Yeah, but then where do you stop? Saddam, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Stalin, Ghengis Khan, the Ceasars? By definition a serial killer should be one man, mano y woman (usually) who has little power except to prey on the truly vulnerable.

• Actually, the more appropriate category for Hitler is Mass Murderer: Mass murder (massacre) is the act of murdering a large number of people, typically at the same time, or over a relatively short period of time. Mass murder may be committed by individuals or organizations--wikipedia citation.

• He was responsible for millions of deaths yet he killed no-one himself so he is invalid based upon the parameters of the question. I strictly answer this academically. Of course this one nut austrian tyrant is a dirt bag bug it has not been proven that he has killed anyone, hence he is a bad choice for an answer. A.H. wasn't a mass murderer, he was the one who inspired others to do such. Should he not be riding Satan's barbed phalyx? Yes! But I still believe he avtually personally did not commit the atrocities: he merely said do it.

• No people,I might be wrong,but I guess Hitler can't be considered a serial killer,or else George Bush and the Turkish who killed many and many armenians would be serial killers too,I guess there is a difference between a genocidal,that is usually a leader of a group/nation/empire,etc,who kill whoever stands on his way for political and ideological reasons,and a serial killer,who is someone who usually is a psychopathy,have some kind of trauma,or is just a sadistic person who enjoys torturing and killing,and they always have a exclusive way of choosing victims,a reason for choosing those victims,and a persinal motivation to kill.So,it's different things,Hitler is one thing,Ted Bundy is another.

• Erzsebet Bathory had violent seizures when she was a child, which might have been from a neurological disorder and would explain part of her psychotic behavior later in life. After her husband died, and she was getting older, she started to become progressively vain as she was getting older (she was known as one of the most beautiful women around - milky porcelain white skin, bright green eyes, hair as black as the night), she was trying to find ways to preserve her beauty. She started dabbling with witchcraft, which included spells that required blood sacrifices of animals etc. (While her husband was away, she would entertain herself by inviting self proclaimed wizards, witches and alchemists into her castle so she could hear stories of the dark arts to aid her boredom. In actuality, it made her even more curious that eventually she needed more than just listening to the stories, she wanted to take part in the magic herself.)
  
  After an incident with a servant leaving some blood on Erzsebets hand, after wiping it off she noticed that her skin seemed 'fresher' where the blood was spilt. She believed she had discovered the secret to keeping her physical youth/beauty, and the ways she went about retrieving this blood didnt start out torturous and gruesome at first but eventually grew out of control.
  She eventually fucked up by getting greedy and sloppy, and got caught. She was banished to a room in her castle for the rest of her days, where the opening was bricked up except for an opening they left where the guards could give her meals through. She was found face down on her floor by a guard after she passed away.
  
  
  NOW TO THE GOOD STUFF YOU GUYS WANTED TO READ OR SKIPPED AHEAD TO READ ANYWAY:
  
  In the beginning, since she was convinced that the blood would restore her beauty, they would go out at night to gather a batch of beautiful girls. They would hang the batch of girls, alive and naked, upside down by chains around their ankles. Their throats would then be slit and drained to prepare Erzsebets bath - which was to be taken while the blood was still warm. She would bathe and drink the blood, to completely submerge herself in this beauty serum.
  *NOTE- The only reason why this would be twisted in that day is that she was murdering people - youve got to think: in these times, people died from drinking gold because the towns honestly believed that drinking gold would make you beautiful.
  (She eventually didnt believe that the blood was working any more, so she started gathering beautiful virgins, which she believed would definitely restore her beauty as their blood was pure.)
  
  She had a pair of claw like pincers that her husband used to wield; they would clamp down, piercing the skin and in a swift motion pulling back would leave no choice but to rip the chunk of flesh off the body that the claws had grabbed.
  
  She had eventually had a special Iron Maiden made for her - the Iron Virgin - I had to look up the exact description as to not mess it up for you: "This clock work doll was of the size and colour of a human creature. Naked, painted, covered in jewels, with blond hair that reached down to the ground, it had a mechanical device that allowed it to curve its lips into a smile, and to move its eyes.
  For the Maiden to spring into action it is necessary to touch some of the precious stones in its necklace. It responds immediately with horrible creaking sounds and very slowly lifts its white arms which close in a perfect embrace around whatever happens to be next to it - in this case, a girl. The automaton holds her in its arms and now no one will be able to uncouple the living body from the body of iron, both equally beautiful. Suddenly the painted breasts of the Iron Maiden open, and five daggers appear that pierce her struggling companion whose hair is as long as its own.
  Once the sacrifice is over another stone in the necklace is touched: the arms drop, the smile and the eyes fall shut, and the murderess becomes once again

When they raided her castle there were almost a hundred half dead victems sprawled throught out the place. Her husband was almost as bad. He encouraged her and gave her ideas. She also had servants she hand picked because they were into this stuff. Brings new meaning to House of Horrors. She and not Valad the Impaler (her cousin) was the inspiration for Dracula. Even he had his limits.

• Oh, they got her back. They walled her up in one room of her castle and left her there to die. They were so scared of her it took years after they statred getting the food trays back with nothing eaten before anyone had the guts to look and she if she was dead or not. Oh, these weren't peasants she killed. Only the offspring of lesser royal houses would do. She was so kind to offer to teach their daughters how to be ladies of the court. If they wouldn't give them willingly she would kidnap them. It wasn't until they realized that girls never came back out that she went after peasants.

• That is the scariest thing I have ever heard. Something like that happened in my hometown area. A good friend and also a co worker-her fiance was accused of murdering a girl. He was accused because they found dna in his car. He wasn't using his car because he was away, so it was his friend who murdered the girl. Totally effed up. The worst thing is, I've met him and had pleasant conversations. He was always such a nice, seemingly normal person.
