  • A lot of space technology has helped us in the regular world with advancement and inventions from velcro and freeze dried foods to medical breakthroughs and satelitte technologies.
  • Possibly the origin of life, atoms, energy... a broad range of things.

  • It definately helps us learn about how to spend money on fruitless endeavors :-) I mean, there are some useful by-products for sure, but humans will NEVER travel beyond our moon or perhaps Mars but certainly NEVER to the nearest star over two light years away. We are quarantined on this planet until we break the light speed barrier ... which, IMO, is not possible in any form other than energy. The reason it is not so productive is, the cost to do any REAL research would be greater than the GDP of all the countries in the world combined, so we are settling for minimal information at maximum expense for now! I'd love to see it yield something great, but it's just too few dollars after too great a mission.
  • I believe the global survey satellites have contributed a great deal of information about the nature of the oceans, land, mineral content and plant life. The resulting information has been used to find mineral deposits. Identify over or under watering of crops and make adjustments. And better understand the movements of ocean currents and sea life.
