  • A compound is when combining two molecules results in a new molecule. Like carbonic acid (carbonated water) - H2CO3. Water (H20) and Carbon Dioxide get together, and combine to become H2CO3. Not all substances do that. Put Gold (Au) powder into water (H20), and you just end up with wet gold powder. That's a mixture, you can easily separate the two and end up with Au and H20 again.
