Why would a popular AB'er get Down rated for a thoughtful and intelligent answer?

Trolls are sick! They've forgotten the difference between a good and bad answer!

Trolls don't care about quality of an answer or ranking of a member. They received an angry response, which gives them pleasure.

I guess it's all part of the "game" here. I think people DR for other reasons that disagreeing with an answer or a question.

Trolls love to DR people just because they don't like them...whether it's because of opposing beliefs, their race or religion, where they're from....there's a lot of lame reasons. Some trolls are jealous of people who are well-liked and popular, so they DR them. Trolls get off on DRing, I think. Not that it does anything to anyone's point total. They have some lame feeling of power hitting that minus button. Lord only knows what makes people so petty and childish.

I already answered a similar question (why people downrate in general): http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/2650836 Being popular or high ranked don't protect you from downratings. However, if you are popular or have some luck, some people will look at your downratings and correct them.

Popularity means nothing. Some people just like downrating stuff. Because they dislike the person, because they feel like it. That's just how it works.

It is the only joy a Troll may know ... as they are excluded from the everyday joy of life. Take pity on the Troll and cast your garbage upon them so they may eat :-)

That's got to be one of the most long standing questions on Answerbag, and never satisfactorily answered because who can really know the motives of a troll. This is a case of takes one to know one.

They could just be trolls (they don't need a reason). Or it could be an overzealous animal "lover" who objects to the suggestion of a muzzle but doesn't have the nerve to actually bring it up and debate the issue.

Everyone gets Downrated Helen, a lot of the time it is spite and jealousy. Sometimes it is somebody trying to manipulate the board.
