Yes. We used to work with a guy we nicknamed "Bullshit John". He went to the Amazon and captured a snake, he was in the mafia, dated playboy bunnies, was rich and just worked to keep busy, drove around in his clunker so he wouldn't be recongnized because he was in the witness protection program, etc. We would mess with him all the time tripping him up on his lies. What a doofus he was.

I had a guy like that working for me in the Navy. He told very convincing lies for no apparent reason. I sent him to our medical officer for evaluation and he diagnosed him as a pathological liar and sent him for a psych evaluation. The sent him back with a not that we should stop picking on the guy. It was then that I lost all respect for psychologists and psychiatrists. They bought the guy's stories hook, line, and sinker. We were trying to help him before he got in real trouble and the psychiatric people let us all down. Total incompetence.

Yes. Not a word! And she told me once (and actually believes) "I'm always an honest person." Go figure. ;-)

i knew one compulsive liar. virtually everything out of his mouth was a tall tale, and he enjoyed spinning yarns. i have to give him credit for his creativity ~ but he should have put it to better use ~ like writing fictional novels. there was another individual that came close, but mr. man took the cake. ive caught other people in lies, some were repeat offenders, but still no one was as compulsive as that one individual. if theyve lied on more than one occasion, i wont discount everything the person has to say, but my bs meter is set on high afterwards, and my respect meter is set to low. interestingly enough, i think ive met a couple individuals on this site who might qualify as compulsive liars. ive run across numerous posts where they project their faults on others (e.g. whining about bad behavior, saying they would never deign to do such a thing themselves, yet they do it in many of the blogs i see from them). their grandiose sense of self, superficial charm, verbal outbursts, and lack of empathy make me think they are possibly even sociopaths. their anonymity gives them even bigger ego screens and empowers them to act badly in my opinion. i suppose answerbag is a form of therapy for them.

I worked with someone like that. We would catch many holes in her lies and stories and laugh as she would stumble trying to explain the discrepencies.

Yes, one of my aunts. She has some kind of personality disorder, because she is always telling lies and making up situations. Also, there is an old man in my hometown who makes up the most amazing stories, and he tells them with a straight face. He is crazy enough to think that everyone is going to believe them. One of the stories: He used to fish on a beach, by the shore. In order to get lucky, he used to throw a dime to the ocean before he started fishing. Then he would start fishing and always had a great catch. One day he only had a quarter, so he threw the quarter. A few seconds later, he felt that something had hit him on his chest. He looked to the sand...and there they were: a dime and a nickel. The ocean gave him fifteen cents....his change!!!! Isn't that insane enough?

I knew a woman who was always getting stricken down with some type of disease or illness. Every few months, she would dramatically announce yet another horrible malady. but predictably, "the team" (as she called her doctors) would miraculously cure her. It got to the point where people called her "Disease du Jour". Obviously, her real illness was mental.

There was a neighbor who lived three doors down and he had a story for everything. Not anymore, he is back in jail for check fraud.

Hi again, it's Sherri. We corresponded a few days ago, so you know some of my experiences. Oh, yes. I know someone all too well. It's a painful thing to live with and the lesson being taught is,"don't trust anyone". It's taken me a life time to trust again & I still struggle with this issue. Have a great day.
