  • No, I don't think it's dumb to ask people to be considerate of others that may not be like them. Neither did Jesus.
  • No. We can agree to disagee on certain subjects, but still be tolerant of the viewpoints of others. The refusal to accept the fact that others are entitled to opinions and outlooks which may differ from our own is what leads to hatred and war.
  • not really... as long as the person is asking politely.
  • I would use the word "acceptance" rather than tolerant. To me, accepting others is the key to living an emotionally comfortable life. Of course I have to first accept myself. If you want to be, do or say anything, it is your own issue and there is no reason why I should make your issues my issues. I would ask that you, and others, simply accept me as I am. So long as I don't physically step on your toes. My lifestyle, the color of my skin, my personal religious preferences, my political beliefs...all are mine. I do not seek to force them on you nor am I willing to accept your versions. But I will accept that you have your own versions and ask that you accept the same from me.
  • You don't have to *like* it, only to tolerate it. You don't have to be friendly with them. But you have to give them room to live their lives in their way - and expect the same toleration from you.
  • yeah, seems to me almost everyone has not much tolerance anymore ,only their self interests....:)
  • Yeah. And I've always wondered about how few can tolerate *me*! Whaddabout that?! ;-)
  • I can "Tolerate" most things, even homosexuals. But when they tell me I HAVE to accept their lifestyle as "Normal" is when they have crossed the line. I don't have to accept that to my personal beliefs, or thoughts. I will "Not dismiss" them, but I sure won't think they're normal in anyway shape or form.
