  • i guess they dont want to slurp it up and get gravy on their chin. Its almost like an etiquette thing. btw gravy=tomato sauce. (for all you non italians)
  • youd be twirling for quite a while more than you would just to cut it
  • Not if the spaghetti is very long. Then you end up with a real mouthful and it gets a bit messy too. I break my spaghetti in half before boiling.
  • I think not everyone knows how to do it. I was taught twirling by my Italian family, so it is second nature to me, but many people I have met seem confused by the prospect of how to twirl pasta - I know it is very easy to do, but new things sometimes seem hard to people, it may seem easier for them to just cut it. I think some parents cut the pasta for their children when they are small, as well, so people are used to eating it this way. I do break the pasta in half before I boil it, but that is because me partner doesn't like it long.
  • NO NO NO. There is always one stubborn end that sticks out when you twirl it round your fork and it never fails to slap you on the chin smearing bright red sauce over you just as the cute boy in the corner of the restaurant glances your way! I play it safe every time and cut it up into teeny tiny strands. Of course in the privacy of my own home i just shovel it in any old how and wipe my mouth with the back of my sleeve! YUM YUM
  • i only really cut mine at home, just so i can shovel it in faster on my lunch break haha. and i don't usually risk eating spaghetti whan i'm out... penne is a much safe option.
  • Never break or cut spags in my family! We hand out the spoons...
  • I've eaten it both ways and I actually think it is quicker to cut.
