from what I have seen on the History channel (and this is coming from TV of coarse) according to them, there where roads made for travel that they claim to have possibly been part of Atlantis...so I would assume that if it did exist, it was above water.

I think it existed as a normal land when a big flood in sea occurred due to which this Island city turned upside down!

I do not believe it was one island but rather a peninsula, or a group of islands. If it indeed existed it was not inhabited by mermaids and such or 'underwater people'. It was above the sealevel but the flood or as we now call it a tsunami could have easily destroyed the whole island. This happens all the time at sea. Underwater volcanos that errupt and cause a tsunami and destroy deserted islands. This would cause a wall of water heading towards Atlantis, which is equal to the story told. Except back in the days they still believed everything had to do something with the gods, so in their case they just pissed poseidon off.

Ask the AB user "Osara Aswan" She not only thinks it literally existed, but also that she in an "Atlantean" herself.

I believe it was flooded out & really existed. Only thing is that it occurred earlier in time then previously thought. Have a feeling many peoples along the area it once was connected with were in fact added to by fleeing Atlantians. Which would make since with the number of people who feel they have connections with it.

I think it was a land civilization and it got flooded.
