  • 1) Lack of consistent governmental controls. Most cruise ships have foreign crews and hygiene is not taken seriously enough. 2) Same reason people get sick on airplanes - a bunch of people within a confined space sharing every waking moment with each other and spreading germs all over the place. 3) Cleaniness costs money. Cruise ships are a for-profit business. So, they do just enough to pass the rudimentary inspections and appear clean to passengers. Incidentally, people have been getting sick on cruise lines for many years. It just seems like more now because it is more publicized through the media.
  • because they do not clean their coils and maintain their air conditioning systems and mold and mildew, which can creatae virus's and many other diseases are spread through out their ventilation systems especially if they do not change their filters on time
  • Mostly from over eating, and eating foods that they normally don't eat.The buffet is always open and the temptation is too great.
  • Not until a few years ago were cruise lines required to submit sickness reports to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta (I don't know to what degree they have to report, but it's not minor amounts just numbers over a certain minimum). the most common is the norovirus which is more of a concern in Schools, hospitals etc.. This is not the reason for getting sick, but it is the reason why it seems that it's SO MANY PEOPLE, which based on the amount of people who actually cruise each year, the percentage of people who get sick is very small
