Do any point & shoot cameras offer a manual adjusted aperture so I can blur the background? I don't really want the additional cost or size of a SLR. Thanks

As far as I know, the Canon G10 has fully manual override just the same as a Digital SLR. It runs for about $599 or you can get the Canon G9 for less. The G10 is the replacement model for the G9, so the G10 would include more features. The G10 also lets you shoot in RAW mode, a must for photographers.
