YOU may not see any bees but most likely they are there. But if you want to be sure your female flowers are pollinated, then you can do it by hand. There are two different types of flowers, male and female. The female flowers (which produce the fruit) will have a thicker stem right below the flower itself- this is what will become the melon. The male (pollen) flower stems will be the same thickness right up to the petal bases, and will probably start appearing before the female flowers. Get a small artists paint brush and dab into the pollen in the male blossom and then go to the female flower and brush the stamen. Be really careful not to hurt the flower or break anything off, be gentle. Often if you do this you can increase how many fruits you get. It works real well on other squash and pumpkin. It's good if you are trying to cross different types, too.
