You like to eat out, but don't have a lot of money.

Thrifty people eat at less expensive places. Cheap people don't leave a tip

Scenario: You're throwing a party, and need enough glasses for everyone's mixed drinks.

Thrifty - going to yard sales, thrift stores and Goodwill and picking up a vast assortment of vintage mismatched martini glasses, Hurricanes, and goblets for $10.

Cheap - swiping a bunch of cups from the self-serve soda fountain at 7-11.

Thrifty- buying high-quality furniture for a good price off craigslist.
Cheap- buying a suit from walmart when you could get one at a thrift store and get it altered for much less.

For me, thrifty is getting the highest quality for the lowest price while still being ethical and environmentally friendly.
Cheap is just getting something for a good price that is going to wear out quickly just because you didn't want to invest in a high quality item.
The things you buy reflect on you as a person. Consume responsibly. Buy things that you know will last.

    I am an audiophile.

This is normally a very expensive hobby. However, I bought all of my equipment on sale, bought good quality, and have kept the items for 15+ years.

They still work and sound great. I consider that a thrifty approach.

thrifty is when you spend wisely, cheap is when you won't buy something even if you really need it
