they are becoming an endangered species because of a virus, which causes tumours on the animals' faces,this has reduced some local populations by more than 90 per cent.It is transmitted when devils bite each other while mating or fighting over prey. The animals die of starvation because their faces are so eaten away by the cancer caused by the virus.
