Depends on the cost, When I was in Bali, I had bought so many Pirate DVD's, that I decided to get one, so I could watch some before I got home, It was a great idea, and it was nice and cheap over there too!

If you can get one cheap (under $100) then I suppose a limited-purpose device like that might be okay. However, my netbook can hold *many* movies plus get non-DVD content from the 'net, making it a better platform merely for videos, plus it can do SO much more. Shop around and you can find a decent one for under $250 while many of the decent, name-brand portable DVD players I saw were over $150. If you're going to sink some cash into something, spend a little more and get something better. BTW - Most portable DVD players can't do HD and they *definitely* have grainy screens. Mine has better resolution (not quite HD, but more than double what a TV has) and looks sharper than most TVs and ANY portable DVD player ;)
