Something common, but not as common as John.
-
I wouldn't wish to give him a "crazy" name, but I would not mind giving him a "unique" name.
-
Normal is good.
-
Common but not too common. John is definatly out of the question.
-
My partner and I have said that if we have children we would call the boy Hunter and if we have a girl Onna.
-
Speaking as a John I have never had much to complain about because the name gives nothing away. Johns are not teased about their names. If you are called Lafcadio or Valentine, or Nigel, you will have been so thoroughly teased and bullied at school that you will be turned into a misanthrope before you are 10. I wouldn't name any of my sons John to avoid intrafamilial confusion.
-
I would not use a common name- but popular names seem to be changing rapidly. I would definitely not name my child after a popular person or fictional character. I would also not name children collectively in an embarrassing way: I don't want girls name Dawn and Eve or May and June. No alliterative flocks named John, Jennifer, James, Jacqueline, and Jeffrey.

Wouldn't want to give the kid a name that would get them teased mercilessly, something they could live with. at worse something familial.
-
We chose Cameron for our first child, it took us WEEKS to find a name because we didn't want it to be TOO common, nor did we want anything that was so crazy he would get picked on endlessly for.
-
Just remember he will have to bear the name you give him.
-
