If 'terror' and 'horror' are both bad, 'terrible' and 'horrible' are both bad, and 'terrifying' and 'horrifying' are both bad, then why is 'horrific' bad and 'terrific' good?

Terror and terrific both have the same Latin and French roots, so I'm really not sure why they have such divergent meanings.

I terrorized my intelect for an answer only to find that I was horrisized by the lack of finding.
