How rare are stones with a natural (very important) hole through them? Is there a way to be relatively sure that it's natural?

I have loads of them = picked up on the beach; we call them Hag Stones.

Crinoids are pretty common stones in the central US. They are actually the fossilized remains of a sea anemone and are common in areas that were once shallow seas, ie: the Mississippi River basin and tributaries.
