Is REIKI really effective ? Does the concept of using Cosmic Energy to create positive energy effective?

Once a cousin of mine tried Reiki on me. At the most inappropriate time she succeeded in putting me to sleep. I missed an important meeting for which she was trying to relax me with Reiki. The lesson learned never subject yourself to Reiki by amatures. I have never had any experience with professionals though.
