Put the XP disk in the computer and turn it on. Run the XP installation that way. XP installs through a blue screen.

Might be a faulty stick of ram or one that's not properly inserted if the error message you're seeing with the setupdd.sys is accompanied by a stop message or a "set up cannot copy" message. I just dug into the microsoft knowledge base for you, have a look here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315335 and see if this applies to your issue as to the exact message.
