  • 27 years after the death of Christ many of them were still alive, and I believe their time span goes on awhile after that. Some of them however, did die quite soon after the death of Christ because they were followers of Jesus Christ, so they were killed via. stoning, beheading, etc.
  • The truth is that the original disciples would have never sanctioned any work written about their mission to be used as definative scripture. There are many writtens that scholars guess may have been written about them around the second and third centuries after christ assencion, but many where considered non canical. the fadct is the commission Christ commanded of them is simply preach the good news, make disciples, and baptise in God's name, not make historical documents about their lives.
  • Well, I guess we need to look at who really wrote this bible stuff--it wasn't any of the illiterate Aramaic speaking disciples of Jesus. Literate Greek speaking people wrote it and for the most part names were added later. I believe only 7 of the 13-14 (depending on what you accept) claimed books written by Paul are accepted without dispute as being written by Paul. Certainly none of the Gospels were written by the names assigned to them. We reject the gospel of Judas, 3rd Corinthians (well I guess it was accepted for 1000 years or so), gospel of Peter, Apocalypse of Peter, Gospel of Thecula, the Childhood gospels and 60 or so other books written in the first century. So I guess the answer is that those who wrote and sometimes choose the books that made up the canon, didn't think that the books and stories that had other disciples names attached were worthy or that those names weren't worthy of attaching to a particular story, gospel or other book.
