  • The chances of being delt a royal flush with 4 people? It would be a miracle from God if you got delt a royal flush. That's the rarest hand anyone could have(and of course the best), and the more people playing, the less chance you have.
  • Just to clarify, the number of players playing doesn't affect the odds here, it is the same mathematically speaking whether you are playing with 4 players or just dealing the top 5 cards off the deck to yourself - the cards are either in your hand or they are not in your hand, it makes no difference whether the cards which are NOT in your hand are in another person's hand or sitting in the middle of the deck undealt. To talk you through the maths of this, when the first card is dealt to you there are 20 cards it could be that give you a chance of making a royal flush... any 10, Jack, Queen, King or Ace in any suit. So there is a 20/52 chance that the royal flush is still on at this point. Then the chance of the second card keeping the "dream" alive is 4/51 since by now you are limited to cards of the same suit as the first one; and so on, the third card has a 3/50 chance of being good for a royal flush, the fourth has a 2/49 chance and the final card finishing the deal is a 1/48 chance. So multiplying together - 20/52 x 4/51 x 3/50 x 2/49 x 1/48 This simplifies down to - 1/13 x 1/17 x 1/5 x 1/49 x 1/12 which is 1/649740 (649739-1 in betting odds) or a 0.0001539% chance (sounds a lot less when you put in that form!). Of course this is only the case for 5-card draw poker, in other forms of poker the odds are totally different.
