Although I liked them both...I prefer Sammy over Roth....Sammy had great lyrics and took them to the next level...With Roth, they kept doing remakes of songs...Don't get me wrong...They did a hell of a job doing so...."Dance the Night Away", "Pretty Woman", "Dancing in the Street" I don't recall them doing any cover tunes with the Little Red Rocker, but that's my opinion...
Really, I don't think you can even compare the two (I don't think Gary Cherone really made a significant contribution...sorry Gary). It's like two different bands, as some people call them: Van Halen and Van Hagar.
Although everybody loves to hate him, I have to go with Roth. Van Halen was never the same without him and I think their album sales after his departure proved it. Likewise, his going solo hurt him as well. Sometimes you have to add salt to a recipe. This is one of those times.
David Lee Roth hands down.
when they had Hagar they kinda sold out a bit
with the other guy, i hate to say this but, van halen sucked a lot.
van halen was great with Roth
Gary Cherone
Sammy...all the way.
Definitely David Lee Roth. Sammy is a better singer, but David Lee fit the band better and was a big part of their sound. I don't even count the dude from Extreme.

You're reading Who's the best lead singer for Van Halen: David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar or that guy from Extreme (What were they thinking?)
