There should be one for each proof in the paper.

The conclusion should properly close out the thesis. About 5 sentences should get that done in the typical 5 paragraph, 3 argument paper.

Don't know that there's a rule (I taught writing), but it helps to recall that the conclusion brings you back to the general again. What are the ramifications now that you've proven your thesis? What actions should be taken, etc., if applicable. What does this, having been proven, mean for society on the whole?
