Receiving an honorary doctorate is certainly quite an honor, particularly when it is from a prestigious university. It is awarded generally in recognition of a body of work or service to society that is deemed worthy of the degree. Also, unless it is stipulated in the award, it carries the full weight and privileges of the same degree when earned by regular matriculation and taking exams.
