You shouldn't be expected to tip anyone regardless of wage for poor service!

"Why should you tip? Keep in mind that some workers earn the bulk of their income from tips and are only paid minimum wage (or slightly above). The price you pay for the product or service goes to the employer, the company owner, not the worker helping you (e.g. waiter, waitress, housekeeper, busboy, steward, delivery person, drivers, baggage handlers, etc.). A gratuity is filled with gratitude: thank you for tending to my needs, so I don't have to do it myself.

because tips is where a waitress actually makes their take home money, a waitresses paycheck is deducted like a hundred times for various things, your sending a hardworking individual who served YOU with no money. ive worked in a restaurant for almost 9 months, trust me

I have never made minimum wage but close, and it's almost impossible to live on that. People in service jobs don't make much money partly because they get tips. That's part of their pay. If you ever tried to live on minimum or even a little more you might reconsider this question.

You shouldn't be expected to! I know you excluded waiters - but I was a waitress and there were places I didn't make minimum wage. That should not be your problem though and so even then you shouldn't be 'expected' to tip. Although people will be sad if you don't and appreciative if you do!

If waitresses have such a problem with people not tipping then they should find a better job. I have never tipped and never will, I see it as a form of begging, you are being paid to be polite from your employer not by me. I mean you spend a lot of money in these restaurant places, they charge a fortune and for me it's a rare occurrence so the last thing I wanna think about is throwing away even more money especially in the recession that everyone is having.

I'm not ever sure how much (salary-wise) people in retail and service industries, make. But, I have read (many times over) about how much we are "supposed" to give certain people in certain jobs. I have no problem whatsoever in doing this. But, most of the eating establishments (in my area), that deliver, add a $2.50 to $5.00 "delivery charge" to every order now (and, in the fine print, it says "not in place of the tip"). That really puts a bite into what I can afford on a tip! And, unfortunately, it's not the delivery persons fault.
