Doesn't matter.
-
It matters if you are not from Africa, for example, or are not "black" but from the islands. I tend to refer to folks in more specific terms just to be safe and respectful.
-
It really dosent matter to me.
-
I have no preference since I am Caucasian. I don't think any of those terms are bad. it may depend on where someone comes from as to which they are called.

How about American, were all Americans, to come up with labels for certain Americans is isolation; isolation saps the strength from a group; as long as we as a Country divide itself through special catagories of Americans we will never be as strong as we could be. To be truly a strong nation we must unite as Americans.

America is one big melting pot of various nationalities, races, and religions. We are all Americans. If no one else makes a distinction of who they are why should blacks?
-
either

I am not black but, if I was, I would say "call me black" if you were talking about my ethnicity. I would say "call me American" if you are talking about my nationality. It would be easier for Americans to just call me "black"... or my name. It would be easier for non-Americans to call me "American"... or my name. I am also extremely pickyune and there is more than one ethnicity in Africa. Not all are black. I can understand why people hyphenate "American." As said in many answers, it is to connect to your heritage. Well, to me, I do not need to stick a word in front of "American" to connect with my heritage. The only problem I have with the black vs. African-American thing is that I have a rotten memory. I try to remember how various people like to be addressed in this aspect but with a memory like Swiss cheese this is difficult.
-
Simply call me black.
-
I would rather just say black. It's less confusing.
-
it doesn't matter........all are human being basically.
-
Call me anything--but late for dinner!
-
Prefer black because its what I'm used to and because we usually call Caucasians white. People who have some portion of both I call mixed-race. If somebody is actually from Africa I'll call them African or whatever-their-specific-nationality-is.
-
I don't go around saying "White" American or "Caucasian" American , or "UK" American etc ... I simply say AMERICAN .... So; why can't people of color say that they are AMERICAN without adding the color /race card to it .... ?
-
I refer to my black friends by their name, dont really see thier skin color. they usually just call themselves black
-
I used to have a black roommate, and he'd laugh his butt off over people trying to not 'offend' him. If you asked him what he preferred, he'd usually say burnt cookie or some other such nonsense. :P
-
I don't really care. I generally refer to myself as Black though, as do most of my friends. As long as the person isn't insultingme, I could care less what they call me.
