They don't want their owners to watch them die, because it could be very heartbreaking for them to watch a beloved companion pass on. How do they know this, you say? Dogs and cats are quite intelligent, and can recognize feelings.

When they really do not feel well, they tend to look for a quiet, safe place, since they don't feel like any of noise, light, playing, or being touched.

If you were dying would you want anyone fussing with you? You feel terrible, your life is draining from you, the last thing you want is to be touched, picked up or spoken to.
