I am having an operation march 13 2007. it's for Cervical C5-6 & C6-7 anterior cervical discectomy, fusion & plating. any one had such an operation? how did it go? much pain after wards? how long before back to work? any help appreciated.

I had 1 and 2 fused and then 3-4-5-6 fused. I have clasps on top and railroad tracks below. They used depleted Titanium cages. The surgery went well, but there were some side effects. Erectile Dysfunction and sleep apnea. The cage presses against the back of my throat, at first it made it hard to breath at night and impossible to swallow. Pain, pain, pain, I am still in pain and its been almost a year. Where the pain was 10+ cry all day before, now I can function as a normal human being most of the time. I recommend rehab, although you will never regain most of the flexibility or the range of motion, it will get you active and stop the progression of weight gain and muscle entropy. I had to go back to work after 6 weeks part time. It was a bit much, and then after about 12 weeks I was back fulltime. Sorry no one answered your question. How did it go for you?
