If someone becomes a sex offender anywhere in the United States, does the officially-sanctioned stigma stay with them for life or does it get removed after a number of years?

    Actually, registration varies from state to state. For the best info on the laws in various states, go to http://www.klaaskids.org/pg-legmeg.htm

    However, the stigma will be with them for life in various ways. Just as their actions will be with their victims for the rest of their lives. I say this from a very informed perspective. I know several registered sex offenders, including an in-family child molester.
