  • No. Been there, done that, still there. No advantages at all.
  • honestly, no.... people below the poverty line here in america dont have it easy, and its typically a very small percent that stay on welfare for longer than a year contrary to stereotypes. some people cant work because they would end up making less than they do on welfare because of the costs of child support. I dont recommend trying to be poor
  • Just try feeding your kids on ten dollars a week. NO advantage at all.
  • There's one advantage of being poor. It's that you would never be materialistic, just as so many people are.
  • You have nothing, thus you have nothing to lose...
  • Well, I guess it depends on how poor, if you are starving and lack healthcare and basic things then no! But I have been in a situation where I have had very little but not lack the basics, and you can look on the bright side of everything. You can become quite creative out of plain necessity! And the only way is up.
  • The less you earn, the less taxes you pay, the least chance to get into a money fraud, the less chance your kid is gonna be stolen for ransome, and the main thing is THE MORE SUCCESSFUL YOU ARE THE LESS FRIENDS YOU GOT and vise versa, of course
  • You appreciate what you do have more..
  • you don't have to worry about money........
  • Yes poor people can only get richer. They don't get huge tax bills.
  • Poverty leads to ingenuity and resourcefulness. Sure, money can buy you a diploma, but being poor can give you an education ;)
  • I hope I am not too rich. . Mark 10:23-25. Jesus looked at his disciples. He said, 'It is very hard for rich people to belong to the kingdom of God!' The disciples were surprised at his words. But Jesus said again, 'Children, it is very hard to belong to the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the small hole in a needle than for a rich man to join the kingdom of God.'
  • I won't come from a religion stand point but from in the pass while knowing I had suffered a abusive and very poor childhood and while I struggled hard and I still live in a very poverty level neighborhood, with hope and the love of God I was able to see happiness is not always being rich because as I look around many rich people are suffering great crisis in their lifes as well which money cannot control such as serious illness, children with addictions and troubles they can't change. Though poor God gave the love of a mother, grandmother and siblings and most of all my two beautiful daugthers that I worked hard and sent to college and one day they will do much better than I and to sum it up when you struggle for things and the ones you do acheive it is an even greater joy and always being poor gave me the ability to be able to cope in the misdt of recessions beause I already knew the struggle and it was staying strong as usual through it all.
  • yah may be people look at you with sympathy and it helps you getting things work for you if you have bit might get chance to be richer soon..
  • You have probably worked very hard to get what you have so appreciate it more.
  • Yes! ... realism
  • yes having more time to spend woth friends and family a huge career can make you work all day and go away for weeks at a time. all work and no play when have you got time to form relationships
  • When my husband and I was homeless several years back I believe we were alot closer in that time. I mean I don't want to be homeless again to capture that. But it was a different closeness.
  • Learning to appriciate the small thing that get you through the day!*
  • In my opinion, there are no advantages to being poor. Ask those who go to bed with hunger in their stomachs, or those who ration out toothpaste because they can't afford to buy more, or those wondering if they're going to have a roof over their heads next week. Sure it makes people resourceful, but when the country is in a major recession, resources are limited. It's like running in circles.
  • There are countless disadvantages, but no advantages, sorry.
  • Sometimes it seems that people in a lower income bracket have tighter knit relationships, but when you hit destitute, it's every man for himself.
  • Yes, there are tons. The fact is being rich can be extremely tough because you always have to live up to your status, and there is still extreme pressure. Being poor means you can be more of your own person instead of what others need you to be.
  • yes you are grateful, caring, respectful, wise, and patient.
  • There could be some advantages, but usually there are much more drawbacks. However, in some cases, having too much money can be a curse, not a blessing: "Trust me, I love having well capitalized companies. However, having too much money can be a curse, not a blessing. More often than not, I see management lose financial discipline and avoid making hard decisions when capital is abundant and not scarce. To many executives, money does solve all problems. And yes, having money allows an entrepreneur to do many things with his business like hire more talent, scale the back-end infrastructure, and ramp up sales and marketing. On the other hand, when an entrepreneur has too much money, the tendency is to throw more money to fix a problem." Source and further information: http://www.beyondvc.com/2006/03/money_does_not_.html
  • My first answer vanished, so I'll try again. I never heard of a poor person refusing more money. There is no advantage that is found in poor people that cannot also be found in wealthy. It is possible for wealthy people to appreciate what they have, to be close to family, to have calm and serene daily lives, and all the other things that have been attributed as advantages to the poor in the other answers.
  • I think you appreciate the simple things more.
  • You can be confident that no one is marrying you for your money
  • Yes--freedom is just a another word for nothing left to lose.
  • Yes, you learn how to get through tough times. You learn how to appreciate every itsy bitsy little things of your life... And much more.
  • Poor people know what is out there.
  • *You learn that everything in life is vanity. *You learn that family and friends, and people are more important than anything else that could be offered. *You realize you can make it with very little. *You become better, if you strive for stability. *Appriciate.
  • Maybe the ability to find humor when the news media goes bezurk because the stock market just "has to have a bail out"?
  • Growing up poor and getting out of it, you'll tend to hold onto what you have better and be less susceptible to swindlers. But that's contingent on becoming not poor(not necessarily rich) later in life, and I can't think of any advantage to BEING poor. There's also the theory some hold that rich people all go to Hell, and poor have a better Heaven than middle class.
  • None that i know of. Whatever can be done as a poor person can be done as a rich person.
  • There is advantages of being poor because knowing where you came from will let you see where you want to go but you must embrace change first. This will help you to appreciate all of the steps you take as you move along the stepping stones on the road of progression. I feel it enhances dreams and gives you not only positive but challenging goals to work toward. Being poor will make more work for you but its well worth the journey and outcome because things that are given easily we may appreciate but only for a short time. you can still have happiness but learn that happiness is not in the form of materialistic things which are classified as wants. Distinguishing between wants and needs plays a vital role.
  • In the US there are many programs to help the poor. Your children would get free meals in school, you can receive food stamps for your family, get help with welfare, reduced rent with section 8 program. I really don't know who you classify as poor. Many "poor" people have cell phones, big screen tv's, cars, microwaves, computers, and many more things that are not needed. Many will eat at fast food places, where you can spend $10.00 very fast. I am sure there are many more services that I have not mentioned here, so if you are hungry in the US it is probably your own fault. I have seen poor kids wearing $89.00 pairs of sneakers and many other things that are "not" needed. Personal responsibility will take you a long way. I don't think these are advantages, but they sure help folks who are poor. There are millions of families around the world who live in huts, with no running water, no food etc. that is poor!
  • Appreciating a lot more things in life that most people take for granted.
  • Low or no taxes! ;-)
  • you learn how to live poor and manage your money the right way and not waste money on dumb things like $180 shoes or a $900 purse
  • Yeah... you don't have to sleep with or tolerate rich people.
