  • It's hard to remember the necessities when you're starving or guilting.
  • You know Rosie..well some diets may work in the short term..they are one of the biggest cons in todays society..why don't people realise if you eat healthy and exercise..thats enough..it makes me smile when people spend I don't know how much money on products (which are seriously bad for then) when all they need to do is increase they activity :D
  • So many people seek that "magic pill" or "quick fix." They don't realize that all these pills, liquids and fad diets may help them lose weight, but once they stop, they can't keep it off. Not to mention the possible side effects and the toll on their bodies. People need to take responsiblity and learn to change to a healthier eating lifestyle and engage in some sort of phyiscal activity, that makes all the difference in the world. That's why I joined Weight Watchers a little over 5 years ago. It's not so much of a "diet" as a healthier way of eating. I've lost over 80lbs and kept it off. And my doctor is thrilled with my normal bp and cholesterol.
  • That's why the AMA supports "steady dieting" and condemns "crash dieting". Everything in the universe is cyclical including the human body. Imagine if a planet started moving in orbit arbitrarily faster or slower than normal. It could spin out of orbit or regress to a lower orbit and possibly collide with a sister planet. Whenever a change is introduced to the body, everything must adjust. Binging on food, alcohol or other drugs, is a major calamity to the body that could result in death because the body is not prepared for it. Since the mid 20th century, we live in an "instant" world where life can change in seconds to the beat of the stock market. You can be on another continent tomorrow morning, married in a few hours to a person you meet in the next five minutes... But none of us take the time to realize that the human body has not evolved to work the way our minds do. Dieting is a good thing if you ease into it. You should never change your diet so radically that you are hungry or take diet pills and think it's great that you're not hungry because the hypothalamus in the limbic system of your brain might be experiencing pleasure, but the rest of your brain and all other organs of your body are shutting down. This could mean a great deal for someone who must have food to carry around 200 pounds of fat. Remember, feed the heart and not the head.
  • I'm sort of guilty of this. It's about not having enough will power to keep your weight stable.
  • Everybody wants a "quick fix" and what they don't realize is that they are damaging their bodies even further. These people think they need to lose weight to have a healthy metabolism, but if they focus on getting a healthy metabolism ( via eating right and exercising, making a lifestyle change) the weight will fall off and stay off. Sure it won't be in two weeks, but it will happen and be better for them in the long run. I've lost just over 36 pounds and it has taken me almost 8 months. I could have easily gone on a crash diet and lost that amount in 2 months. I also didn't start out with tremendous amounts of exercise, but learning how to eat right, hydrating, and getting started on the right path.
  • Most people just buckle under the self-control. They see results, or they don't, and they just resume the old temptations that got them there to begin with. If you want to do something like this, you have to really stick to it for it to work.
  • Ignorance.
  • I have seen many people on diets and as soon as they stop the diet they gain all the lost wight again. In the States we have very bad eating habits, too many soft and alcohol drinks, way too many carbohydrates and in general lack of will to eat healthy. People should try to become vegetarians or pecetarians for a while, they would notice the difference in weight loss and health. I have been a pecetarian (eat fish and sea food)since I was around 14, my whole family is also pecetarian and we are all fit and without health problems. People know that diets are bad for their health but most of them are simply too lazy to workout and don't know how to organize themselves to eat healthy home cooked meals. A diet is a quick and easy fix for them but if they only remembered what it can do to their health they would change their eating habits.
  • You do not need to go back as far as poor ML. This is the barometer it seems for all hollywood actors these days. Then they wonder why Christian Bale has such a strange temperment. People get Oscars because they are able to reduce themselves to skin and bones for a freaking role. Its nuts.
  • I agree, except that I can't talk because I have a sort of similar problem. I'll not eat for a day or two, or three, but then I'll break and stuff myself. At which time I feel awful and stop eating and start exercising a lot again.
  • My guess: When the weight is off, the motivation is gone.
