What are the benefits of compulsory voting?

I really don't see any benefits. It's like and ancient method of doing things. Ballot by mail is the best and easiest way, plus you get more people voting. Eventually you'll be able to vote on-line. That's in the new future.

compulsory voting would mean that everyone would be required to vote. That way, everyone would be able to express their opinions and vote for who they think should win.

I think its a good thing myself ... it makes everyone have their say in how they want their country run and who runs their country, I cannot stand whingers who carry on about the way governments do things and yet they couldn't be bothered to get of their fat arses to have a vote in the first place

High voter turnout. But this does not necessarily give a more meaningful election and may even be worse because some folks will just vote without giving the matter any thought at all.
