Does anybody know about Windows ME, and do you think it is a good program for right now?

• Windows 98 was stable and ME was a bloated version of 98, you must be thinking of Windows 95 the one that gave you a BSOD for just moving the mouse.

• Windows 98 was not very stable relative to XP. I've been writing software for Windows since 1994, and there's an order of magnitude difference in many different ways between 9x and XP, they're really completely different code bases.

• You either have to be kidding or very ignorant to call Vista a wise investment. As someone with deep knowledge in PC, people are avoiding VISTA because it's causing problems and MS knows it. XP was to be canceled in by June of 2008 but now Mr. Gates has seen the trouble his newfangled OS causes people, especially upgraders and he has now extended XP to live on until 2010 and then the next version of Windows will be out and it's called Windows 7.

• Vista is causing problems? I also have a very deep knowledge in computers and computer technology, and I know nothing of any problems. I have been running vista for 18 months and have not had a problem yet. I hope you all remember the problems that XP had when it was released, because it ran on the NT framework, hardly anything for 9x worked. XP isn't perfect, and Vista is XP improved, Windows 7 will be Vista improved. What makes you think Windows 7 will be any better? I'm sure you'll be able to complain about that too. Go back to NT 4.0, or Windows 98, then come and tell me Vista is crap.

• Wow, dude you haven't been hearing of all the people reverting back to XP because hardware and software that won't work with Vista. Vista is bloated. A little google search (Vista crap, Vista Junk, Vista Sucks, etc) will change your mind.

• It won't change my mind because I don't surpress to peer pressure. I have heard of all the people that have reverted to XP, and it's usually unjustified, virtually all XP and 2000 (NT) drivers work with Vista, any software that doesn't can be installed in compatibility mode. I've even had some Windows 95 software running on mine with no extra software installed. Like I said, I've been using it for 18 months, I'm not gonna change my mind now. People are entitled to opinion, but it should be justified, dude.

• XP won't last forever, but it WILL last long enough for Vista to get SP2 or SP3 out.
  As of right now, Vista is sketchy for many. Just because SOME people have good luck with it doesn't mean that EVERYBODY will. Just because I can eat peanut butter doesn't mean that there are not people that go into anaphylactic shock and die after eating something fried in peanut oil.

• I agree with your statement about XP allowing time for SP2 or SP3 to be released for Vista, however, I don't think it is down to luck that Vista works for some people, I think it is down to knowledge, I have tweaked Vista to fit around my needs, and removed the features that annoy me. By the way, I like peanut butter :)

• The majority of current-day PC users are FAR from computer savvy. Many need help changing the wallpaper on their desktop. For them, tweaking is not an option.

• Windows ME isn't even close to XP. Under the skin of ME it's DOS an XP is based on Windows 2000 and Win 2000 is based on the old reliable WinNT. WinNT is a different animal than any other OS of it's time, no DOS underlayer like Windows 3.xx, 95, 98, or ME.

• Save it and just wait for Windows 7, assuming they will still offer a trade up program. Also another reason to buy the full retail box is the trade up program is only good for retail boxed versions,
