operating system... Yeah its fine. I run it on my laptop....works just fine....

Windows ME is an obsolete version of a very troubled operating system (Windows 98). Use Windows XP if you're going to use Windows.
-
Even Microsoft has disavowed ME. It was a horrible OS because it was a half completed version of XP.

IMHO... Windows ME is better than windows 95 or 98. It might not be as good as XP, but that's to be expected. I ran a couple of systems on ME for a couple of years with no big problems. Another bonus is Microsoft doesn't check to see if your copy of ME is authorized, like they do with XP. So, if you could get a copy of ME for say... free! then it might do nicely.

I have Windows ME, and I have to say that it's a horrible piece of technology. It's caused nothing but problems for me, and I would recommend getting XP or even Vista (which would be a better investment). There are many programs that you cannot install with a Windows ME operating system. I would say that it's better than 95 and 98, but those operating systems were not that great either. I'm planning on getting a laptop soon, and I'm going to make sure Windows Vista is the operating system since it's the most current and, according to many, is the technology of the future. I've used XP and it has a lot of good qualities, but I would say purchasing Windows Vista would be a better investment of your money if you are looking for something other than Windows ME.

Go with XP Home. If you enjoy chronic headaches, then by all means go out and buy Windows Vista Ultimate. And do yourself a favor, get the FULL version in a RETAIL box; avoid cheap Upgrade Versions or OEM discs that make life tough when you need to later upgrade or perform an OS repair/recovery. The FULL RETAIL version saves you a ton of headaches, consider it MS Aspirin.

It's crap. Either upgrade to XP or downgrade to 98SE.
-
I can't answer this, because I'm laughing too hard.
-
My brother had ME and he said it sucked. He has XP now and says it's lots better.
-
Avoid ME...its unsupported by microsoft now, best off with XP IMO
-
ME is the end of the road. Leave it and Go to either XP, 2000, Vista, OSX, or Linux.
-
Windows ME was a very unstable OS, and it's obsolete. I still have my original ME disc, and I would gladley give to anyone who wanted it, cause I'll never use it again.
-
Bottom line Windows ME...sucked.
-
I'm using Windows ME right now. It's an ok program, I just don't see how its different from Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Anything older than Windows XP is a bad idea if you plan to be online and surfing the internet, simply because it's horribly insecure and no longer supported by Microsoft - even with a good virus scanner and firewall, those old OS's are risky to use online. At this point, even Window's Vista's days are numbered, as the next OS from Microsoft is coming out likely sometime next year. Some consider Vista as the 'Windows ME' of the new milleneum, being Microsoft's 'stepping stone' between operating systems or the 'cash cow' to hold them over until the next release. In summary, XP is easier to use right now, patched up to SP3 which is quite stable. Vista is fine, but if you're not technical or experienced with Windows systems, stick with XP until the next release after Vista.

All Windows Operating Systems prior to Windows 2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft. There are no new security or other updates for Windows ME or earlier. Windows XP will only be supported by Microsoft for about 4 more years.
