I have Windows ME, and when I try to change network settings, I get an error saying that I don't have administrator rights. I am the only user on this computer, so why am I locked out?

Good. Windows ME is a French phrase that means "pain and suffering for all users"...

Windows 98 was stable and ME was a bloated version of 98, you must be thinking of Windows 95 the one that gave you a BSOD for just moving the mouse.

Windows 98 was not very stable relative to XP. I've been writing software for Windows since 1994, and there's an order of magnitude difference in many different ways between 9x and XP, they're really completely different code bases.
