Lotus, Staroffice are some other alternative programs. Lotus is dos-based but doesnt have that much features Staroffice is free, windows based. Better than excel

Lotus 1-2-3 is an older version of a spreadsheet application. However, Lotus has also come out with Lotus SmartSuite, which acts much like MS Office. It has similar applications to include a spreadsheet application. This newer version of 1-2-3 is much more functional and compatible with Windows-based systems than the old Lotus 1-2-3.

You can go to www.software602.com, and for $39.95 get a compatible (and look alike) Microsoft Office package. (e.g. includes MS Excel, MS Word, etc.)

QuattroPro is another spreadsheet program. It's been out for a while and functions very similar to Excel. I don't who the manufacturer is.

OpenOffice Calc is very good. I don't like 1-2-3 or smartsuite personally nor Star Office. OpenOffice is pretty good.

I'm biased because I started with Lotus rel 2 for DOS 20 years ago. There current version is SmartSuite 9.8 for Windows. It can do anything that Office can do. I would have preferred to stay with Lotus, but 90% of the world uses Office. Quattro is also a very good established product. It was a Borland Product. It is usually bundled with Paradox and WordPerfect. Both Borland and Lotus have a longer history of writing user programs than Microsoft Open office is an open software product. If there are copyrights, they are generally not protected. Star Office is Sun Microsystem's version of Open Office

I use Open Office and I find it to be excellent. You can get it here and it's free. http://www.filehippo.com/
