Because you are there to learn and concentrate on processing your learning materials, not socialise. That is what breaks/recess and lunchtime/dinner break is for. It can be very distracting for the teacher and is very rude trying to teach or talk to someone when they are blatantly not wanting to learn and sit there texting instead. You wouldn't be allowed to sit there texting all day if you were at work, so you need to get used to it from now.

Lets see because you are in school to learn not text and it is rude and what could you possible have to talk about that can't wait till you get lunch or a study or for that matter when school is out.

Texting can be also be used to transmit answers during tests. If it's any consolation, we weren't allowed to pass notes* to each other in class either. ___________________________________ *A primitive form of text messaging involving words hand-written on paper.

Because you're not there to text. You're there to learn. Texting interferes with learning, and therefore should be banned during class.

For the same reason I don't take naps during working hours. If your social life is more important to you than school, then you'll never be able to keep a job.
