A pinky rat is a baby rat that doesn't have fur on it. It depends on how big your brothers snake is. I have a 5 foot long snake, its middle aged. One pinky rat isn't enough for him, I'd have to feed him about 3. If your brother's snake is big, it should eat large adult rats, one a week will do the snake good(that's what I feed to my snake). And don't feed the snake live rats, they make the snake very agressive(trying to chase the rat around the tank), and if the snake tries to catch the rat, but misses and knicks him, you'll have a half dead, bleeding rat in its cage.
