They "disown" Chinese who were born abroad, especially if they don't speak Mandarin.

Well... who knows. I think that is a very big generalisation though. I have worked in several Chinese and Pan-Asian restaurants and there has been a sence of commradery between the Mainlanders and those from other islands. They did not discriminate at all.
