I think that probably goes back to the early days of movies. They usually portrayed light haired woman in that way more and more even though they were B&W movies. Such as Joan Blondell...I doubt that was here last name. Take to the next step and actresses like Marlyn Monroe and Judy Holiday who won an Oscar for her portrayal as an ultimate dumb blond in 'Born Yesterday" sealed woman's fate.

honestly 3 of my ex girlfriends were blonde and they were smarter than me in many subject they weren't dumb they are just naive like many females and as far as being a goldigger they show me no sign of that so i will disagree with anyone on that one. goldiggers to me can be anyone.
