This question came up because of a debate I had with someone saying such a thing. Here is what was said, feel free to take what you want from it: Me: Why do people associate Sodom and Gomorrah with homosexuality? I never understand that. Responder: read and understand. ok then what about 1st coranthians 6:9?? Me: I'm not Christian. I can't pull up bible passages just from chapter and verse. All I was talking about is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah which I have read and I do understand. Angels were visiting Lot and the people of Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to have sex with them. Now I don't know about you, but I have never seen an angel and I don't know if they look like men or look like women or look like something more beautiful than either of them. What I can tell you is that they were angels - not men. So for men to want to have sex with not men, that means that they are NOT homosexuals. Which is why I stated that I did not understand why people associate Sodom and Gomorrah with homosexuals. Other than that I don't care about what else the bible says about homosexuality. I disagree with what it says - plain and simple. So I don't need other verses (although I appreciate your effort at trying to explain it better). I just had issue with that one. But don't do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof." (Then adding his own thoughts) Where in that scripture does it not say MAN. where is the homosexuality NOT AT? Me: So you're saying that if you had never heard of an angel before or didn't worship a god that had angels or just lived thousands of years ago and didn't have to much of what today is considered common knowlege - and you saw beings that slightly resemble humans with someone and, having never seen them before or knew what they were, you would immediately call them angels? You wouldn't say "men" just because that's what they most closely resembled? You would immediately know that? Well then, I have to hand it to you - you would probably have been the wisest and most clairvoyant man those thousands of years ago. Sarcasm aside - all I'm saying is that to follow such things word-for-word without looking at context or background information tends to leave room for error, in most arguments I've come across. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I haven't heard a response since. But does anyone see where I'm coming from?

That sure as heck makes no sense. Your question that is. Sodom and Gomorrah has to do with debauchery and lack of any interest in rising to the heights we are meant to achieve. Whether you have a lover of the same sex or not, you can commit indecent acts by just screwing until you can screw no more and drinking until you puke and eating until you can't fit another morsel in your body and puke so you can eat some more. That's what Sodom and Gomorrah was all about. These people were worse than animals, not because they were homosexual.

i don't associate sex with humans with Soddom and Gomorrah.......the (fallen)angels were coming to earth and having sex with the WOMEN because they lusted after them and thats where the GIANTS of the Bible had come about.....not where SODOMITES came about..i associate Sodom , their wickedness(sodomy) with the ABOMINATION God ABHORRED....those men did not want those virgins remember, they wanted to have their way with the 2 angels.....:)

I think the bigger question here is, why does everyone think the story of Sodom and Gomorrah is about homosexulity in the first place? It's about excess and debauchery, but all the fundies always refer to that story as being about homosexuals. Another case of a biblical story being twisted and retranslated to use as justification for bigotry.

Sodomy is attempting to haves sex with angels when correctly translated. There is an article in here that explains Sodomy and that it really is attempting to have sex with angels. The Church gets a lot of things about sexuality wrong. This is a site that I have found helpful. Look at the section, "The Bible, Christianity, and other Sexual Issues." I am not GLBT, but believe that the Church has treated homosexuals very badly, even persecuted them.
