Almost everyone has a cellphone at my school. Is this normal in intermediate schools?

It is in american schools at this time and age. I find it riddiculous, they buy new hi-tech phones only to break them, have them taken away at school or run up the bill too high. That is the idiocy of america though, jump on the bandwagon everyone. I feel that the appropriate time to get a cellular phone is when you can pay for the bill and the phone with your own money, which is usually in highschool.

My middle school age daughter has a cell phone. She is not allowed to have it at school. I believe if a student is found using a cell phone during school hours it will be confiscated.

it is becoming increasingly common. while the fashion has its good points, such as making sure your child is safe, it also has many pitfalls, suc as BAM@cyberscrewed.tk points out. ( but, just becuase others have them, does not mean you have to have one. It is your parents' decision) :-)
