  • The Category Review Project is a project started in April 2009 by the AB mods to essentially review all AB categories to look for redundancies, over-populated subcategories, areas that need a better definition, and in general to clean up the place. For more details, please see the April 25th blog post here (http://www.answerbag.com/blog/comments/194).
  • Thank you for this information. Good luck with the project, I think it will improve AB.
  • What a wonderful idea!!! I'm looking forward to seeing the results :-)
  • Three things, for now: Duplicate Category Names ------------------------ This isn't a suggestion for a given category or change, technically, but AB has various categories labeled "How do I...?" (New Users, iPod how tos, other how tos...) and other categories I've seen that are labeled similarly. Can these be changed to show to what subcategory they are referring? For example, "Apple iPod How Tos"... "New AB User How Tos"...? The problem I see is that many of these come up in the category search box and there are times 2-3 of the same come up. Since they only say "How do I...?" there, some don't pay any attention to the category under which these appear, and select them. For example: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1427101 was flagged (AND ACCEPTED) to "New Users / How do I...?" when it's clearly Genealogy or Family Relationships. Suggestion for anyplace category names are used ----------------------------------------------- I also have suggested, before, that the "tool tips" for any given category, especially in the search boxes, show the description of the category. This could also help, and now, while categories are being reviewed and changed, would be a good time to include this, wouldn't it? Sex questions ------------- I saw, mentioned, that a human sexuality category is being added/changed to within the "Relationship Advice" section. I've noted many VERY graphic sexuality questions in some Relationship categories. I always flag graphic question to the Adult category. Should there really BE graphic sexual questions in the Relationship category? I'm not talking about the abused wife whose husband forces her to have sex, but discussion of the mechanics of sex? Remember that the relationship category is open for ALL users, from 14 up. The adult category is for 18 and up. Shouldn't AB really think about itself in a "movie ratings" sort of way, and keep the mechanical information in the 18 and over (Mature audiences only) area? That's it for now. I hope some, if not all, of these ideas and suggestions are considered strongly. Thanks for listening. ;-)
