He was the ruler of a tribal group in one of the Moche communities of Peru, pre-Inca period. No one knows his name, but he was buried with the most incredible grave goods. His tomb was discovered in 1987, and only JUST saved from grave robbers, by the heroic actions of the archaeologists who were intending to excavate. After finding his tomb,the same archaeologists were able to discover and excavate the tomb of an even older ruler of Sipan. I remember reading about the excavation in Reader's Digest just after it happened.
