Our daughter rented an apartment there last summer after a lengthy search. She and her roommates were looking for a 3 bedroom, and found quite a few in the $3000/month range. They got lucky and landed one of the rent-controlled units at $2100.

It's a safe neighborhood, and a nice unit.

Rents in SF? If you have to ask you can't afford it. Something to do with arms, legs, or firstborn children.

It is one of the most expensive cities in the US, only NYC even comes close.

Stableboy's daugter and friends got lucky - a 2 bedroom in a good neighborhood usually starts at ~$3k.
