I don't have much knoelwdge or experience on this, so my answer will be very brief. I believe there is a link between the seroxat anti-depresent and suicide in teenagers. I certainly have heard evidence of that in the media on a number of occasions, and I found it counter-productive myself; quite how that would be proven given the nature of the problem that it is supposed to treat, I don't know.

I think if the very company that is selling the drugs has to put in their ads "may cause an increase in depression and in rare cases, suicide" then there's a problem. It also means that someone out there has done a study. I'd go to the manufacturers website. They may have studies that prove otherwise.

Yes, but in teens, not adults. It is extremely rare for an adult to have adverse reactions on SSRI's but it does happen. They have enough life experience most of the time to understand what's happening so that it can be stopped. Teens do not have that safeguard.

It happens often enough to be disturbing. Psych meds should be given with care. They also need to be taken with care -- and it shouldn't be forgotten that SSRI's can take up to three weeks of use to be theraputically effective. Many patients "crash" during very early therapy or attempts at recovery. Some, sadly, are suicides.
