  • It depends on how hard one looks for (and defines) silly or useful questions. I just answered two on Tudor history that required some knowledge and thought, so the "useful" questions, to which I assume you refer, are still around--just buried under a lot of less useful ones.
  • both but you can either answer both kinds of questions or not. Yes AB is starting to turn into the random and silly question site but someone out there must what to know the answer or they would have asked.
  • Yes we are getting an awful lot of totally inconsequential questions on" What do you think about movies and other silly stuff. They just seem to keep rolling in and you have to answer because there are so few good discussion questions coming along. Who the heck cares about Johnny Depps phone number, or if he wore too much badly applied eyeliner in Pirates.
  • Yes and I think things would improve if there was a 'junior AB' or something for all the silly kiddy questions
  • I agree. I'm finally used to the opinion questions, but some are ridiculous. I would like to see the elimination of or at least the separation between the "Crazy Thoughts/Pondering Time" categories and all the other questions. BTW, this question isn't silly.
  • Yes. What else is there to say?
  • Yes I see it happening. The strange thing is that many of these questions are rated extremely high. They seem to collect points well, and thats why they are becoming more common. Many good questions get low or 0 ratings.
  • Yes and that's what makes it so much fun.
  • Yeah, there are more questions directed toward people's lives and opinions. I don't think it's a bad thing, it's interesting, I guess it's a way of getting more points for people who are new to AB. But if no one asked those kind of questions and nothing useful, what is there to do on AB? It would be boring.
  • Yep. I find I dont spend as much time on here as I used to.
  • I am not bothered by ANY type of question unless it is in regards to beastiality, child abuse of any form, calling out another Aber or some other offensive question. I do not care if they are silly.. fun .. curious or the like. We all have a choice in whether we choose to participate in a question or not.. so I feel that if there is a question I do not want to answer.. I do not. Sometimes people do want to know what others think on subjects that are not that serious .. sometimes we need a little validation, even on less serious subjects to see if others think like us.. sometimes we just want to ask silly questions. No harm done.
  • You can search for substantive questions/answers. But, silly questions and answers now predominate. Just ask anyone who makes level 50 in four months or less how much thought they put into their answers. When you see a serious answer, check that person's profile, it is always interesting to know how long they have been active. Compare this length of time to the length of their answers for a revealing correlation. A lengthy answer often indicates a serious poster who doesn't play the points game with silly, punchline answers. You might also try to engage this person in a comment exchange. Someone fishing for points seldom has time to devote to comments. You can't get points for them. You decide if you wish to reward their relentless pursuit or to overlook them, altogether, while conversing with the more serious posters. Ultimately, it is more rewarding and you will have learned something when you sign-off.
  • I don't think this is a silly question because I feel the same. Since I have been on AB I've seen the quality of questions I'm interested in answering change. Of course different people are interested in different things. Maybe I'm just too old and out of touch with the in crowd.
