I can see how that can be true.

Good idea but no When I was very drepressed I was very enthusiastic about being angry lol

Depression is a swarm of many negative emotions that leave you feeling helpless and lost...
-
Nope. Clinical depression is much more complex than that. The current thinking is that depression is a malfunction of a person's stress/grief-coping mechanisms. For a 'normal' person, the stress/grief mechanisms kick in, the person is 'down' for a while, then he/she gradually gets back to his/her normal mood. In contrast, a depressed person stays in the 'down' mode. This sticking is a source of stress, so the down mode tends to persist. To a depressed person, getting angry isn't worth the energy expenditure. http://www.amazon.com/Against-Depression-Peter-D-Kramer/dp/0143036963/

Well, it sounds slick but I disagree totally. It does a disservice to those who suffer with depression because it makes light of it simply to ask a "clever" question. Short-term being in the dumps is one thing...deep, profound and long-term depression is despair.."anger without enthusiasm?" How about being physically unable to get out of bed for weeks on end because the despair is so deep?....it is ignoring your children who need you because you are caught up in something beyond your control which has overtaken you. It is not something to make light of. No..I don't suffer from but I know people who do. I'm sure you didn't intend to hurt anyone with this question..you just didn't know how hurtful the question could be.

i can see you point - very good statement

No I don't. If you're talking about more than just being "down" for a day or two....true depression is something most of the people who have it can't lift themselves out of....at least not for a certain period of time. That kind of depression can often be due to a lack of a certain chemical(s) in the brain that are normally there.
