So I'm a cook in a restaurant, and this dishwasher I work with occasionally drop something on the ground, such as plates, cups, residue of food, etc, and I'll pick it up for him as I see it, and I started to notice that whenever he dropped something, he wouldn't pick it up until after a good while, he has no intention of picking it up right away, so days pass by I just don't pick it up for him, and today he accidentally dropped plates and it fell very close to me, and I didn't pick it up, and after a good while he got mad asking why I didn't pick it up and I told him this:" If you would've pick it up right away or has intention to pick it up, I'll just pick it up for you whenever you dropped something, but you didn't have any intention to pick it up right away, and why would I pick it up for you?" Then he got real pissed about it. So I'd like your opinion, is this his fault or my fault for not picking it up for him? *What I think is that he just left the stuff on the floor long enough so if I see it I'll pick it up for him and he doesn't have to pick it up, and if no one picks it up he'll reluctantly pick it up himself.

It is not your fault, or your job. You are there as a cook, not as the dishwasher's helper. It is nice of you to help him once in a while, but he is being lazy and wants to take advantage of your kindness. I would tell him that you are the cook, and not his mother and that it's not your job to pick up after him. If he is that clumsy and lazy then the owner/manager should be told about it, and he should be replaced.
